The Biological Terrain

"Total healing of chronic illness only takes place when the blood's pH is brought back to a healthy range",
Dr. Enderlein.

What is the Biological Terrain

The biological terrain of the body is the liquid environment in which cells live, grow and replace themselves. One of the factors that affects this biological domain is referred to as the body's pH. What this means is whether your body is more on the acidic side or more on the alkaline side. The word “pH” is an abbreviation for “potential hydrogen.” This refers to the concentration of hydrogen ions in any given solution. It is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. The higher the numbers on the scale (7-14) the greater potential for absorbing more hydrogen ions, resulting in higher alkalinity. The lower the numbers on the scale (0-7), the less potential for absorbing hydrogen ions, resulting is a more acid system. The ideal pH for optimal health is slightly on the alkaline side at around 7.4.

0 to 7 (acidic) 7.4 (ideal) 7 to 14 (alkaline)

What is Homoeostasis

Homoeostasis is the process in the body that keeps the blood pH at a very specific level between 7.35 to 7.45. A deviation too far into either the acid side or the alkaline side in the blood's pH can cause a person to be hospitalized or it can even cause death. Our bodies are self-regulating and will correct high levels of acidity or alkaline by changing our breathing patterns or excreting the excess. If the blood becomes too acidic it will even deposit the acid in another part of the body. If the body itself becomes too acidic, normal cells will form a hard outer coating to protect themselves from the acidic environment. This makes absorbing nutrition and oxygen much more difficult, not to mention the difficulty of eliminating toxins.

An acidic terrain becomes the ideal breeding ground for bacteria, viruses and other microbes to grow and thrive. These same bacteria, viruses and microbes that thrive in this acid environment will die or become dormant in the ideal pH level of 7.4. The common cold thrives in an acid environment and dies in an alkaline one. In fact, in the human body, pH affects almost everything. The pH in other parts of the body have different ranges. For instance, the stomach needs to be acidic to break down food in the digestive process. The intestines need to be more alkaline to preserve the beneficial bacteria that help absorb nutrition from food that is being digested. If an organ's pH deviates too far from the ideal into either the acid or alkaline side for an extended period of time then illness is the result.

Diverging Roads Of Opinion

It sounds simple enough. Keep the pH in an optimal range to fight chronic disease and maintain good health. So why doesn't the medical profession recommend it? Well, a debate over the nature of germs and their role in disease occurred during the time of French microbiologist Louis Pasteur. (1822 – 1895) Pasteur is best known to the general public for creating the process of pasteurizing milk to kill harmful germs. Pasteur is also regarded as one of the three main founders of microbiology and is remembered for his germ theory. It was through a debate over his germ theory where the divergence of opinion originated.

Pasteur argued that microbes or bacteria invade the body from the exterior and are the cause of disease itself. His theory saw the body as a sterile organism which will continue to function properly until an there is an invasion of foreign substances. It is believed that when specific microbes enter the body, they produce a specific disease. In order to fight the invasion, antibiotics and other allopathic medicines are used to destroy these organisms. The theory postulates that health is restored only if there are no germs present to cause disease. It is this infectious disease theory which is practised today by western medical doctors.

One of the men on the other side of the debate was the famous French physiologist, Claude Bernard (1813-1878) and he focused on the importance of the body's internal environment. In contrast to the theories of Pasteur, Bernard argued that microbes such as bacteria and viruses could not produce disease unless the body's internal environment (biological terrain) was out of balanced. Bernard's theory stated that if the terrain is healthy then bacteria and viruses can be fought off by the body.

To make a long story short, Pasteur won the debate and his germ theory became the accepted medical idea for the western world. Yet, in an ironic twist of fate, Pasteur on his deathbed acknowledged the theories of Bernard. In an 180 degree turn, Pasteur said, “Bernard was correct. The microbe is nothing, the terrain is everything.” Unfortunately, it was too late and nothing could dissuade scientists of the day. Today, the medical community still looks for the right pill to kill off a specific germ. Often these pharmaceutical drugs will kill off beneficial bacteria at the same time they target the harmful ones. And sometimes these drugs can change the pH to the acid side and aggravate the situation even worse. In essence, they continue to treat isolated symptoms of a disease and ignore the actual cause.

It is the difference between holistic medicine and mainstream medicine. Holistic medicine treats the whole body. Through a variety of methods from nutrition to massage, it raises the level of health so that it is much more difficult for viruses and bacteria to infect the body. If they do infest the body, then the body is better prepared to fight them off. Keeping the pH at optimal levels is a valuable part of holistic medicine and many holistic methods do this without even realizing it.

In the Treatment of Cancer - It is Wise to Alkalize

A high acid terrain creates an oxygen deprived terrain and cancer thrives in such an environment. In fact, cancer cells themselves are highly acidic. Dr. Otto Warburg of Germany won a Nobel Prize, his first of two, for his discovery that cancer cells cannot survive in a high oxygen environment. Furthermore, test tube research has shown that tumors grow faster in an acidic environment. Other research has demonstrated that chemotherapy is more effective if the tumor is located in an area that is more alkaline and less acidic.

Despite the fact that some doctors still believe that the terrain is unimportant, if I had cancer or any other viral disease like AIDS or hepatitis, I would want to correct my pH. It is not something where you need to get your doctors permission. You do it on your own through diet. This is not to say that you should be treating your cancer on your own. It is just that if you were about to go for chemotherapy, knowing that it is more effective in an alkaline environment, wouldn't you want to alkalize to help improve your chances? Knowing that cancer cells grow faster in an acid environment wouldn't it be wise to alkalize? Wouldn't it also be the same for the treatment of any other chronic disease?

The Alkaline Diet

For clarification, there are two different kinds of acid/ alkaline foods. The first is an acid or alkaline food as determined by how much acid or alkaline the food contains. The second type are acid or alkaline “forming foods” - meaning foods that bring about an acid or alkaline reaction in the body after it has been eaten. For instance, grapefruit or limes have a high acidic content, but consuming them brings about an alkaline reaction in the body. This diet is based on acid/alkaline "forming foods."

The purpose of this diet is not to push the pH too far into the alkaline side, but rather bring it to the ideal pH of 7.4. Don't make the mistake of thinking that acid foods are somehow unhealthy. There are some highly nutritious foods that are acid forming, but they need to be eaten in the proper balance. For this reason it is recommended that a person eat 80% alkaline “forming ” foods to 20% acid “forming ” foods.

Other Methods to Raise Alkaline

There are a variety of products on the market that claim to neutralize an acidic body. Perhaps the simplest and the least expensive, is old fashioned “Baking Soda,” also known as Sodium Bicarbonate. The ancient Hindu books of medicine were prescribing strong alkali for cancer over a thousand years ago. A great modern day example of treating cancer with baking soda was seen with Dr. Simoncini from Italy, who in 1983 started treating and curing cancer with baking soda and apparently it took 8 - 9 months to heal. Unfortunately, it was also a great example of the medical profession ignoring new ideas and Dr. Simoncini had his medical license revoked for using methods not approved by the medical society. It didn't seem to matter that Dr. Simoncini's methods seemed to be working!

As a general guideline, place 1/4 to 1/3 of a teaspoon of aluminium free baking soda in a glass of tap (or bottled) water and drink once in the morning and repeat in the late afternoon or evening. If you like, you can swish it around in your mouth before swallowing to combat the acids that cause tooth decay and gingivitis. If you are taking baking soda on a daily basis be sure to check you pH regularly.

Another great product to alkalize your pH is coconut water (not coconut milk). It tastes great and will definitely alkalize.( P.S. get the one without any added sugar).

How to Measure Your pH

To measure your body's pH it is necessary to purchase pH test papers that measure from 5.5 to 8, with a resolution of 0.2 pH. You can usually get these kits at the pharmacy or dozens of sites on the internet.

You will measure your urine and compare the color on the strip to the chart on the box. When you measure your urine, use a cup or bowl and dip the test paper in it. Don't place the pH test paper in the stream of urine as it tends to wash out the color. Shake off the excess, and read immediately. If you wait even 10-20 seconds, the value may change due to evaporation. Remember, the body is self regulating when it comes to pH. An acid urine is a sign of an over acid system which is eliminating excess acids through urination. When attempting to alkalize your system, it can take a week or longer to begin seeing results.

Our health is not something that should be placed in the hands of someone else. It is up to us to make the daily choices that will keep us healthy. Maintaining a proper pH balance in your body is not rocket science and just about everyone can do it with a little effort. By choosing 80% alkaline producing foods you can very likely keep the biological terrain in a healthy range and reduce your chances of getting cancer and other diseases. But this is a two part program. The first  part is to stop putting excess acids into the system using the alkaline diet described above.  The second part is to remove any excess acids that have already accumulated in the cells of the body. Cancer Cures
Part II (page Two)is how to remove excess acidity from the body.

Cancer Cures

Many modern medical experts tell us that we are victims of our genetics. If you have cancer in your family history then there is a high probability that you will also get cancer. Other medical problems like heart disease and high blood pressure are considered to be genetically inherited. You can't change your predisposition to certain diseases any more than you can change the color of your eyes, hair or skin, which are also determined by genetics.

The problem with the above notion is that it was proven wrong as far back as 1967.  Consider the following: Take one stem cell and place it into a petri dish in an ideal growing environment and within one week there will be 50,000 stem cells - each of them genetically identical. Stem cells are biological cells that develop into specialized cells to produce more stem cells. In humans, stem cells differentiate into two types – embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. In adults, stem cells act as a repair system for the body, replenishing adult tissues.

Take a few of these 50,000 stem cells and place them into another petri dish, except  this time slightly change the culture medium in which they grow and they may create muscle cells. In a developing embryo, stem cells develop into all the specialized cells—ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm, so they will develop into different types of cells.  Take a few more cells from the original 50,000 identical cells and place them into a third petri dish and again change the culture medium ever so slightly and this time they may form bone cells. Do it again and they may form fat cells. So what determines the type of cell that will form? It is not genetics, it's the environment in which they grow  that willdetermine their ultimate fate!

Take these same stem cells and place them into an unhealthy, "nutritionally poor," environment and they become sick. Put them back into a healthy nutritious environment and they recover and become healthy again.  In other words, change the body's internal environment and you can change its state of health. It's called the science of epigenetics. When it comes to your DNA and health, nothing is written in stone.

In this YouTube Video, Dr. Simoncini discusses his treatment for caner.
